Cooling the Cellar of the Wild Orchid Restaurant.
The air conditioning problem: The cellar containing refrigerators, freezers and ice machines could often exceed 30°c. This room was also used for washing and ironing all table clothes and napkins adding further to the heat and moisture in the room.
The P&M Coppack solution: The installation of a Calorex 250SC; combining cooling and hot water production in one wall mounted unit: Ideal for this application. The Calorex unit keeps the cellar at around 20°c, improving the efficiency of the staff and the refrigeration equipment. And, as a bi-product of the cooling, the restaurant gets 2,400 litres of hot water at 55°c free.
Cooling the Computer Room at Fearns Sports College, Rossendale, Lancashire.
The air conditioning problem: Three computer suites, a server room and a staff office all needing air conditioning. For safety it was required that the condensers needed to be out of sight and out of reach of children at the school.
The P&M Coppack solution: Four Daikin heat pump FUQ100B units in the computer suites and two Daikin cooling only FTKS50B wall units in the server room and staff office. The installers worked around the school timetable and took extra safety precautions, to prevent children entering the installation site. The condensers were installed on the roof requiring specialist lifting equipment to gain access.
Air Circulation at Alder Grange Technology College, Rossendale, Lancashire.
The air circulation problem: The school had a new technology class room built. The Building Inspector insisted on 10 air changes per hour before the project could be signed off. To do this with fans would have been noisy and caused massive heat loss, especially during the winter months.
The P&M Coppack solution: A heat exchanger system; the Daikin Vam1000FA. A stylish design taking foul air out and bringing fresh air back in. The unit was installed so that just the intake and discharge grills were visible from either the inside or outside the building.
Heating and Air Conditioning at the Pamela Coates Dental Practice, Rochdale.
The heating and air conditioning problem: An extension to the practise to incorporate new consulting room, new surgery, kitchen, toilet and corridors required heating and air conditioning, but in limited space.
The P&M Coppack solution: A Unico 2436 blower unit heat pump coil and 2436 mixing box all clipped together and suspended in the ceiling void above the new consulting room. The system has 18 mini-duct outlets on two temperature zones, one for the new surgery and one for the kitchen, toilet, consulting room and corridor.
Protecting Painting from Damp and Condensation at Settrington House.
The damp and condensation problem: Settrington House is built next to the ruins of a medieval manor. Whilst being mainly rebuilt in the early nineteenth Century, the old house is cold and damp and contains valuable art treasures.
The P&M Coppack solution: Protecting both the paintings and the fabric of the house an Ebac CD100 dehumidifier was installed in the old riding school; now used for private concerts. A D850 dehumidifier was also installed in the kitchen to keep warm air from escaping the kitchen and thus avoiding excessive condensation around the house.
